Stephanie Spielman Accepts $20,000 for Breast Cancer
Research Fund at Ohio State University![]() |
Stephanie and Chris Spielman have raised millions of dollars for breast cancer research.
On September 25, $20,000 more was added when National President JoAnne Ott presented the
Auxiliary's first cancer research donation for 2004-2005 to the Stephanie Spielman Fund
For Breast Cancer Research at Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital & Solove
Research Institute in Columbus, Ohio. Stephanie's husband, Chris Spielman, has been in the headlines for many years in the state of Ohio. He was featured on a Wheaties box as one of the nation's top high school athletes when he was an All-American at Massillon Washington High School. He received the VFW ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD from the Department of Ohio in 1984. He played for Ohio State and had a 12-year career with the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and Cleveland Browns. With all the great years he had as a pro, many feel that his best moment was when he took a year off from his beloved sport to take care if Stephanie when she was battling breast cancer. To show support for her and to help their children understand what she was going through, he shaved his head to match her hair loss as a result of chemotherapy. In addition to the fund-raising appearances that he makes with Stephanie, Chris is
currently a local radio host and covers college football for ESPN TV. |
